The main highlights are:
The old style £20 note featuring Sir Edward Elgar will be withdrawn on 30 June 2010. The £20 note featuring Adam Smith will remain in circulation.
Retailers and businesses can assist with the withdrawal process by banking Elgar £20s with takings and using Smith £20s or other notes when giving change or making supplier payments in cash.
For several months after the end of June most banks, building societies and Post Offices will accept the Elgar £20 notes for deposit to customer accounts. However, agreeing to exchange notes is at the discretion of the individual institution and retailers and businesses are advised to check with their own banking provider for further clarification as to whether they will accept these notes after 30 June.
The Bank of England in London will always exchange its old notes.
